Pumpkin Volcano

So i had planning on doing volcanos with my LO last month but we saved it for October to use a Pumpkin as our base. Sounds weird right? But its so much fun. What kid …..or adult doesn’t love exploding things (for a better lack of the word).

Since we had a mini trip to the pumpkin patch already we used a small – medium sized pumpkin. Carved the top off (I did it cause I wouldn’t trust my 3.5 yr old with a knife) and scooped out the pumpkin guts. I saved some of the guts for a sensory bag and a few seeds for a pumpkin gut project.

Once our pumpkin was all scooped out and ready we grabbed our ingredients for the volcano.

Ingredient list:

White vinegar

Baking soda

Cinnamon (Optional but it neutralizes the vinegar smell)

Food Coloring (also optional but the kids enjoy it better with color)

  1. Pour baking soda into the pumpkin. Maybe about 4-5 tablespoons worth, it really depends on the size of the pumpkin.
  2. 2. Pour about 1-2 tablespoons of Cinnamon
  3. Add a few drops of your food coloring
  4. Add the vinegar and watch your pumpkin volcano erupt
