People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3: 2-7
What is good for your self can actually be destructive to both yourself and to others. As a community we need to stand up against it. Stand up against the social ideal of “I” or “self” and think of we. Not every one is going to be happy or think that way. We will never be able to arrive at the Knowledge of Truth unless you stay the course. “Don’t calm the scenes” (credit: Deadliest Catch) you can’t tame the seas, you can’t completely change the way society looks at things. What you can do is walk in Jesus’ footsteps and be the best you can be because God wants good. God doesn’t want you to boast about your good deeds, do the good things even when no one is watching.
My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me – John 17: 20-21
As I said we have to be one, as a community we need to be on the same wavelength to show others so they can understand and believe.
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit,[e] striving together as one for the faith of the gospel – Phillipians 1:27
This says it all. Be one community as a group of individuals. Each person has a story which will reach others but if we as a community cannot agree and walk in Jesus’ name then how can we reach others.
As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him 1 Peter 2:4
It’s not about looking the part, it is about coming together collectively as a church.
Now how are you going to help your church and community work as one?
